photography studio receives small business of the month award for December | Press Releases

McGilvrey Fine Portraits was chosen as the recipient of the RiverBend Growth Association Small Business of the Month award for December 2021.

Photographer George McGilvrey notes that one of his studio’s unique offerings is the prints and albums they provide to clients. “We’re proud to offer prints and albums, so people can enjoy them for generations, not just digital pictures to have on their phones or on a disc in their desk drawer. “

In business for 20 years, McGilvrey had operated his photography studio solely in Paris, Illinois, and its surrounding area until it closed in 2000, when digital photography took precedence over film. “It would have been a big expense to make the switch then,” said McGilvrey.

“When my wife Kimberly and I got married and moved to this area, we restarted the photography studio. We are still working for old and new clients in the Paris region while continuing to strengthen our presence in the River Bend, ”explained McGilvrey. Their East Alton studio opened in 2015.

As the husband and wife duo noted on their website, “We are inspired by the love we have for making people more confident while still feeling beautiful. We have photographed many different subjects in many different locations. across the country We are surrounded by both natural beauty and interesting people Our photography tells your story.

“I do what I do because I love to show people their best side and help them see themselves as others see them. What they see in the mirror isn’t always accurate, ”McGilvrey added. “I love the look on people’s faces when they see the finished product. It’s very special when they say, ‘Wow, I look good!’ “

McGilvrey Fine Portraits, as the name suggests, offers beautiful portraits as part of its photography services, but also so much more. They also offer professional portraits, senior photos (including black and white shoots), real estate photography and a full range of other photography services including weddings, engagements, motherhood, family, kids. , events and even school dancing. They will also come to your home to capture the snaps that will help you tell the stories of your everyday life.

“I’ve also run free sessions for a lot of people,” McGilvrey said, “especially high school seniors who might not be able to have professional portraits otherwise. “

As for the challenges, the one they face the most is convincing people of the need for their services. “Anyone who owns a camera thinks they’re a photographer and a lot of them offer ‘cheap’ services,” McGilvrey said. “It’s hard to convince people what they want, and need, professional images and physical prints, not just digital files.

McGilvrey consults with potential clients before they are in front of the camera, personalizing each session and creating the style of imagery clients want. “Every session is different and should be treated that way. “

“We also realize that not everyone is our ideal customer. Quality portraits are a luxury, and they don’t fit everyone’s budget, ”he added.

Choosing to become a member of the RiverBend Growth Association was also a good business decision for McGilvrey Fine Portraits. “Our business allows us to meet a lot of great people that we might not have known otherwise. As a member of the RBGA, I am happy with the way they promote our company, especially through social media and through their website, as well as their additional networking opportunities. I like to participate in as many RBGA events as possible.
