Reddit has decided to give its users more tools to create their video content. Let’s look at the updated features that users can take advantage of.
Following in the footsteps of platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, Reddit is finally throwing its hat on the battle for shorthand video supremacy.
In an update from November 2021, the platform extended its video creation tools. Here are the updated features Reddit video makers can use to take the world by storm.
In 2020, Reddit acquired the social video maker app, Dubsmash. Known for its innovative video editing features, the acquisition of Dubsmash solidified the foundation for Reddit’s transition from an anonymous online forum to an abridged video sharing platform.
After incorporating many innovative video creation tools from Dubsmash, Reddit has now added a host of updated features to its camera that can allow creators to create videos in its native app.
At the heart of its additional features, the introduction of a new camera brings the most significant change. Unlike before, Reddit users can now access options like changing recording speed, setting timers, or using filters called Reddit goals.
If you are planning to download videos that you created in another free online video editor, Reddit also allows users to download videos in landscape, portrait, and fill mode. Not to mention that you can trim and crop multiple clips at once.
Alternatively, while Reddit’s updated download features are great, it’s also possible that you don’t need other video editing apps at all. In the same vein as its competitors, users can now add text stickers, draw, apply filters, rearrange clips, and even add voiceovers in the Reddit app.
The rise of new Reddit video makers
For years, Reddit has been synonymous with its strong community of genuine but mostly anonymous users. With this move, Reddit is opening up to a different kind of demographic, who aren’t afraid of having a face attached to a username.
Hoping to allow its creators to express themselves in multiple ways, Reddit’s updated abridged video creation tools do just that.
While only time will tell if it will be worth it, Reddit has clearly made its bet by pushing for more video content. As for the kind of shorthand video content that will thrive on Reddit, anyone can guess.
